St. Louis Rams tickets have been a showcase for offensive firepower over the last few years. Former head coach Mike Martz was considered an offensive mastermind with few equals in the NFL. But the mercurial Martz always had his problems with the Rams front office and after suffering with health problems in 2005 the Rams decided clean house. In keeping with their tradition the Rams selected another offensive minded coach in Scott Linehan.

Linehan comes to St. Louis by way of Miami where he spent time as Nick Saban's offensive coordinator. Under Linehan the sickly Dolphins' defense improved dramatically, moving from almost dead last to 14 th in 2005. But that type of performance isn't unusual for a Linehan coached unit. In Minnesota , where he was also the offensive coordinator, the Vikings had the NFL's most productive offense in 2004. So the choice of head coach is in keeping with what Rams fans have come to expect of their team.

Linehan inherits a good stock of talent to work with. Marc Bulger finished 2005 with 2,297 yard even though he played in only eight games due to injuries. A healthy Bulger coming back for 2006 is expected to pick up where he left off. Marshall Faulk, long the main weapon of the Rams, has stepped aside for running back Steven Jackson. Jackson topped the 1,000 yard mark for the first time in his career last season and with Faulk's role reduced his production should pick up. Bulger will still be looking for Torry Holt to carry the load in the passing game. Holt's 1,333 yards led the team in 2005, but Kevin Curtis is also becoming a threat, averaging over 13 yards per catch for his 60 receptions.

But the fans headed for the Edward Jones Dome in 2006 may have gotten some indications of Linehart's intentions when the Rams surprisingly chose a pair of tight ends in the 2006 NFL Draft. Both Joe Klopfenstein and (2 nd Round, Colorado ) and Dominique Byrd (3 rd Round, USC) have good hands, decent size, and may signal a change in offensive philosophy from a wide open attack to a more controlled pace. With an accurate passer like Bulger (66.9% completion rate) it's a good fit.
