Lining up for Seattle Mariners baseball tickets may become as commonplace as stopping by your favorite gourmet coffee shop each morning. Fans in the Pacific northwest see Mariners home games at Safeco Field in Seattle , and while the team has not participated in post season play since 2001, this year promises to provide some thrilling baseball in the American League's Western Division.

General manager Bill Bavasi, and second year manager Mike Hargrove have a solid anchor on which to build. Superstar right fielder Ichiro Suzuki has garnered some amazing accomplishments and records since becoming the first Japanese position player in the Major Leagues back in 2001. That year he led the league with a .350 batting average and 56 stolen bases. Suzuki also had 242 base hits, the most by any player since 1930. Those stats enabled him to win both the Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year awards in the American League. He is only the second player in MLB history to do so. But, believe it or not, his most productive season was yet to come. In 2004, Ichiro came to bat 704 times, one short of the Major League record. Ichiro Suzuki had 262 hits bringing his four-year total to 924, which is a Major League record and he also led the majors in batting with a .372 average. He has been a Gold Glove winner for each of the five years he's played and, in 2005, he again had over 200 hits making him the first player to have 200 hits over his first five years in the league.

Other bright spots in the Mariners lineup include first baseman Richie Sexson, who put up good numbers last season including 39 homers and 121 runs batted in. Good things are expected from Adrian Beltre at third and Jose Lopez at second, with defensive wizard Yuniesky Betancourt rounding out the infield. Raul Ibanez and Jeremy Reed roam the outfield with Ichiro and Carl Everett, acquired from the World Champion White Sox, and Matt Lawton will share designated hitter duties. The pitching staff should thrive as 20 year old Venezuelan phenom Felix Hernandez is joined in the rotation by Jarrod Washburn who was brought over from division rival Los Angeles Angels. Veteran lefthander Jamie Moyer is still hopeful he can have a good year while Gil Meche and Joel Piniero complete the team's starting rotation.

Seattle will once again rely on right-handed closer, "Downtown" Eddie Guardadowho who had 36 saves in 2005.

The most interesting addition to the team will undoubtedly be catcher Kenji Johjima. The seven time All Star for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in Japan 's Pacific League signed a three year deal with the Mariners after a 2005 season that saw him batting .309 with 24 homers and 57 RBI's in a year shortened by two injuries. He is currently studying English and Spanish so he can communicate with his pitchers. That should make visits to the mound truly interesting to see for Seattle Mariners ticket holders.
