The Pirates have an impressive tradition that includes nine National League pennants and five World Series titles, the last coming in 1979. That was the year when slugger Willie Stargell became a fixture on the national scene. With Stargell, speedy Omar Moreno and power-hitting Dave Parker, the Pirates adopted the popular disco anthem "We Are Family" and won a seven-game World Series over the Baltimore Orioles. Sunny Chuck Tanner was the manager then. Jim Tracy brings a similar positive attitude, which is just what these young Pirates need.
