Boston Red Sox Tickets

The rarity of selling Boston Red Sox tickets to home games is never a problem, in the oldest ballpark in the Major Leagues, Fenway Park .

After finishing in a flat-footed tie with arch rivals the New York Yankees in the Eastern Division of the American League; a head-to-head tie-breaker rule determined that Boston be placed behind the Yankees giving them the wild card berth in the playoffs. What followed was a disappointing three game sweep at the hands of the eventual World Series Champions, the Chicago White Sox. What did Boston in more than anything was their pitching. Starters Curt Schilling and Wade Miller as well as closer Keith Foulke spent a lot of time on the disabled list and never did round back into form. The team's inability to defend their first world championship in 86 years led to a shake-up of sorts.

In October 2005 general manager Theo Epstein resigned reportedly turning down a lucrative contract extension. What followed was a revolving door of coming and goings on the Red Sox roster. They began by acquiring both right-handed pitching ace Josh Beckett and gold glove third baseman Mike Lowell from the Florida Marlins. There were deletions as well. In December the team traded infielder Edgar Renteria, lost Bill Mueller to free agency and Kevin Millar to the Baltimore Orioles. But it was centerfielder Johnny Damon who committed the most unforgivable outrage when he signed with the hated Yankees last January. In response to that move the Sox pulled off a trade with the Cleveland Indians bringing quality outfielder Coco Crisp to Boston . Just in case you haven't been keeping score, this would mean that the team will begin the 2006 season with only three position starters from their 2004 championship season in place.

Those returning are formidable indeed. Catcher and team captain Jason Varitek remains solid behind the plate. Left fielder Manny Ramirez will continue his love/hate relationship with the team. His numbers last year were most impressive, sporting a .292 batting average, with 45 homers and 144 RBI's. He even reported to spring training this year looking svelte and happy to still be in a Boston uniform. Of course the biggest offensive weapon in the arsenal is still "big papi" himself, David Ortiz. The MVP runner-up and designated hitter had 22 homeruns of his own and 148 runs batted in. He even got a head start on his conditioning and preparation for the season by playing with the Dominican Republic 's national team in this spring's World Baseball Classic. The Red Sox start the season with a starting rotation consisting of a hopefully healthier Curt Schilling, newcomer Josh Beckett, Matt Clement, and Bronson Arroyo. In the bullpen, Closer Keith Foulke should also be mended, but veteran Tim Wakefield will be out there with him just in case

There was one other addition which can't be forgotten; Theo Epstein had a change of heart and returns as general manager in charge of baseball operations. Fans should hurry and get those "green monster" tickets before they all sell out.
